Table tops

Solid oak tops for dining and work tables. We pick each board by hand and dry it slowly, so the top stays calm after years of daily use.

Why us…

The table becomes the heart of your home

At a dining table you take the wood in from close up — its grain, tone and texture. This is where every detail counts.

We choose the boards so the grain works together. On a floor it is lost in the area; on a table it is not — you look at it up close every day. The glued top then rests for a week before we sand it to final.

  • Chosen board by board We compose the top from boards whose grain works together. On a dining table you notice it from half a metre away.
  • Any size No stock formats. Tell us the size and we make it exactly, including odd shapes and cable openings.
  • We advise on thickness Usually 40 mm for a dining table, 30 for a worktop. Thicker is not always better — on a long table the bracing matters more.
  • Finish to suit use Oil-wax on a dining table, repairable in place. In a kitchen rather a hard oil, more resistant to water.

From our work

Table tops we have made

Dining and coffee table tops in solid oak — from panel patterns to smooth surfaces.

How it works

01

Size and shape

Length, width and what the top is for is enough. We will advise on the rest.

02

Choosing the timber

We send photographs of the actual boards the top will be made from. With a table top the grain can be chosen — with a floor it cannot.

03

Quote

Priced by area, thickness and finish. The base is quoted separately.

04

Manufacture

Six to eight weeks. The glued top rests for a week before we sand it to final.

05

Handover

Delivered finished, with care instructions. You can fit the base yourself.

FAQ

How large a top can you make?

We adapt the size to the brief. On larger tops we design the build-up so the surface stays flat — a plywood core prevents the warping that solid timber alone would risk over a large area.

Will the top take hot dishes and spilt liquid?

An oiled surface stands up to ordinary use, but we recommend a mat under hot dishes. Spilt liquid simply wipes off — it will not soak in unless it is left standing for a long time.

How do we care for the top?

A damp cloth is enough, plus a treatment with wood oil once a year. A scratch can be sanded locally without renewing the whole surface.

Do you supply the base as well?

We make the top; the base we arrange with a blacksmith or joiner to your idea. We can also supply the top alone, for a base you already have.
